That’s a really good point. I personally think there are lots of interesting pieces of technology that do give young learners a greater palette of colours to go out and play with on a large blank canvas, instead of a colouring-in book where they must work neatly within the lines.
But those tools probably sit more in the gaming space (eg Dream, Minecraft, Little Big Planet) than in edtech these days. Though you do get nods to them even in systems that look more locked down (eg the tools for creating stories in Khan Academy Kids).
